CONG AND ASHFORD CASTLE

Cong is a village located on the edge of Lough Corrib best known for providing the setting to the film “The Quiet Man”. One cannot forget that the village is also home to the 12th century Augustinian Abbey founded on the site of a 6th Century Church, that it is the place where the last High King of Ireland died, that it hosts a school of Falconry located on the Ashford Estate, that it is home to a brown trout hatchery, many caves, woods and the stunning lake called Lough Corrib the largest inland waterway in Ireland. A day trip can take in all of the aforementioned or just one but it addition any visitor to Cong must Ashford Castle one of the leading Hotels in the World year on year. Once used as hunting lodge by the Guinness family, the grounds not to mention the Castle are wonderful.  A small fee per head is charged to access the grounds but it is worth it! If you can do it book afternoon tea in the Connaught Room for that really special memory.
